This is an Italian Plique-á-jour clover brooch in beautiful and vibrant colors. This lucky four leaf clover has fine filigree work with overlaid with enamel in green and red. Plique ‘a Jour is a French term meaning ‘letting in daylight’. A process in which enamel is applied in wire cells, similar to cloisonné, but without a backing. As it is transparent, light easily shines through the translucent enamel causing it to appear much like stained glass. This clover pin is constructed of silver twisted filigree metal that has a gold wash, it is marked 800 for the silver content and, in a rectangular cartouche, 79 GE, for Genoa Italy. It was made by a true artisan in Italy.
